Friday night I finally got to see Sweeny Todd with Steph and Liz. It was totally worth the wait. The movie exceeded expectations. (I liked it a lot! ^^)
My favourite aspect was Helen Bonham-Carter as Mrs. Lovett. Her costumes and performance were fabulous. I’m a huge fan of hers. I admire anyone who can play the batshit craziest of characters with the wackiest hair and still look some kind of beautiful (also see: Bellatrix Lestrange).
And Depp was awesome, as always. I was worried about his singing, but it was actually enjoyable. Definitely not cats-in-a-blender.
Highly recommended to anyone who hasn’t yet seen it. (Maybe the musical element has scared you off?) I will definitely be purchasing the DVD (and hoping it has a subtitle option so I can sing along to the entire thing – to the great annoyance of everyone else watching – like I do with RENT).
Ah, and I received great (belated) Christmas gifts from both friends who attended this tale with me and I don’t think I properly got to thank them in the cinema lobby. So, thank you guys. I’ll put everything to good use. ♥
Oh! and, going into Sweeny Todd there was a poster for Cloverfield. I really want to see this and I don’t know why! It looks like such a mishmash of movies I’ve already seen, but I want to see it anyway. And there was another movie in the trailers for Todd that caused Steph and I to agree, “We’re going to see that!” but I’ve already forgotten what it was! I only remember Collin Farrell and many British accented and fat people. Someone help me out here. :O
